Perthro: The Norse Rune of Synchronicity

Perthro Pendant

Perthro is the 14th rune in the Elder Futhark. It is phonetically, “P.” It is the 6th rune in Heimdall’s Aett.

Perthro may be looked at as the rune cup. It can be seen this way if turned on its side. It may also be connected to the feminine divine, as it may also be looked at as a womb. Perthro may be connected to Frigga. It may be the element water.

Perthro is connected to mystery. It has the energy of hidden things, secrets, and things unknown. Perthro can also combine the idea of cause and effect, precognition, and synchronicity. When you think something is going to happen, and it does. The way I read it, it could also be similar to when you change lanes on the highway, and the old lane speeds up… Non-synchronicity.

Perthro is a powerful rune. Whenever this rune is discussed in class, the teacher groans. Starting this month, I need to remember that I determine my own “wyrd.”

[Editor’s note: As a woman, I relate to this rune differently than the author (JoeJoe) does. I wear this rune necklace when I want life to be exciting, for instance if I’m going out partying. This is one of my favorite runes. It has a very distinctive feminine energy, and it might be harder for someone with purely male energy to understand..]

Anglo-Saxon Poem:
The lot box means play and laughter
where in the middle, the warriors sit
in the beer hall, happy together
*Lot box may be a gabbling cup.

Face up in a rune read:
Water, well, birth, dice cup (chance), feminine power
Bring into existence
It almost never means romantic partner, more likely family connection.
What you do not know
This rune’s meaning can change based on whether a man or woman is asking the question
Master of beyond
You may be able to find out eventually.

Face down in a read:
If a man is asking a question and face down, the man may get his own way.

Bloggers Note: Perthro is a rune of chance. I was in connection to the energy of chance, and luck.
