Seeking a Remedy

Aegrescit Medendo tattoo

Aegrescit Medendo tattoo. This translates to “becomes worse by the remedies used.” This tattoo is a symbol of a rough childhood in Busillis’s life.

Kanji tattoo "To Seek"

Kanji tattoo, “To Seek.” Busillis got this tattoo to symbolize seeking, however, found out later it could mean to yearn. This tattoo is symbolic for a period of time in their life where they were seeking knowledge. Busillis had moved out of the house. Busillis was realizing that the history lessons they were taught were not always complete. Busillis sees it also as understanding the world free from appearance. It was a very investigative time in life their life. Busillis stated they have not gone away from that.

This is a tattoo of eyes seen in heat signature. Busillis liked the design, and incorporated it into a seek band.

Bear Wearing an Odin Shirt

A Bear wearing an Odin shirt

I thought it would be fun to create a picture of a bear wearing an Odin shirt. I do not have a copy of Photoshop. I first tried to use Gimp, however I do not really have any skill with this application. I then decided on Krita. It is not bad for my first time using Krita. If you would like to fix it to make it better, I will accept any improvements.

Fehu The First Rune

Fehu Rune

The first rune of the Elder Futhark, Fehu, is phonetically “F.” Fehu is connected to Freya. Its direct meaning is the relationship to the land. It is stated that it means Cattle or Wealth. From Freya Aswynn it is connected to the word “fee.” It could mean any money or currency. Its connected to Freyja. Fehu’s elements are earth and fire.

It is the First Rune in the Freyja and/or Freyr aett. I have only seen one place were it was connected to Freyr’s aett. Most agree that it is only Freyja’s aett. Since they are twins, I am not sure. I see its connection to both. The first aett  represents the first steps of a journey.  The journey would be in understand the physical to prepare for the next steps in the spiritual paths in the next two aetts.

Fehu is often perceived as wealth. However, it is less about wealth and more about how your life is effected by its surroundings. If you look at cattle, in the old days cattle meant if you could make it through winter.

I like this take on the rune: Magdalena. They propose that the reason its connected to Frejya is because Freyja is a love (and war) goddess.  This is connected to the circulation an emotion.  When you show emotions, you will also receive emotions.

I really like the Norwegian poem for this rune:
Wealth is a source of discord among kinsmen;
the wolf lives in the forest.

In a rune reading. It can mean any of the following:

  • Energy to get you to go to work
  • Potential Energy
  • The wolf that lurks in the forest
  • Luck and wealth close together
  • Ability
  • Spirits of place
  • Gain in work field
  • Money Wealth
  • Social Success
  • Personal Power
  • Property

Its inverse could mean:

  • No backing
  • You don’t have what takes.

My personal view: I started wearing Fehu around the 14th of the month, which helps to remind me to meditate on the rune. I feel it has been pushing me to do more. It also has a connection with personal greed. What do you need, and why do you need it. What will it take to survive. Does something hold you back? If it does stop doing that. That’s the wolf in the forest.

********

Added Notes 06-05-2018:

As I wear Fehu for the month. I have deepened my connection to Fehu. I do see the Freyja and fee. I see a little more now. The term Cattle is food. You eat the food to make it through the winter. That is the fee to survive the winter. You also dont want to show off you wealth. Imagine you were starving, they have food. This would be the wolf in the forest. If you share your food openly. You help create the bonds to make it through.

It does not mean you will make it through the winter. It means you have the tools to make it through the winter.

Louisiana is Calling. Let the Angels Lead the Way

three crosses of the crucifixion tattoo three crosses of the crucifixion tattoo

The first tattoo Gestas got was in the late 1990’s. Gestas traveled to Atlanta with some friends for tattoos and piercings. Gestas went in for a sailboat tattoo and left with the three crosses of the crucifixion. Gestas always had intended to add the rainbows around the tattoo as a sign of hope and to offset the deadly message of the crucifixion. The rainbow did not occur until Gestas moved to Raleigh in 2005.

The rest of the tattoos were completed by Rob Meyers.

Gestas‘s left leg sleeve is indicative of Louisiana swamps. Gestas went in expecting to have a leg sleeve comprised of water, cypress trees, and small animals. Rob first created the possum’s face. Gestas remembers saying, “Oh, that’s big.” Rob said, “trust me.”

Next the alligator was added. This took a long time due to the details. Gestas wanted to stop when they were halfway done. Rob insisted they continue. The session went on for 9 or so hours. Gestas needed liquor to get through it all.

The next part of the sleeve was the raccoon, which is located between the alligator and possum. Next was Rob’s interpretation of a cypress tree.

In later sessions he completed the work with cattails, sky, sunlight, mosquitoes.

Gestas‘s right leg has a Cajun Crawfish playing an accordion in front of an outhouse. A catfish, crap, shrimp, and oyster can be seen dancing around the corners. There is also an armadillo drinking a beer. If you look closely, the name Jack’s Beer is there. Part of it is whited out because that was an error, and he never finished having it corrected. It should read “Jax” beer. Jax Beer is a beer from New Orleans which no longer exists.

Gestas’s right arm includes an alligator chef boiling craw fish. The craw fish think they are in a hot tub, so they are wearing sunglasses and sipping on drinks.

Sling Shot Tattoo from Gogol Bordello Gyps Punks Album Underdog World Strike

This is a Sling Shot Tattoo from Gogol Bordello Gypsy Punk’s album, Underdog World Strike. Volker’s girlfriend was getting a tattoo. Volker wanted to get a tattoo and thought this design would be cool. This is a band that Volker likes a lot.

Leg Sleeve Tattoo. The artist, Erick Lee Volker, was coming up with ideas to put on their leg. They went with a mohawk skull, circuit board, and bomb. Take a detailed look at the bomb. The explosion is only on one side of it. The reason for this is when they got to other side, it hurt too much to continue! The leg sleeve took over fifteen hours, broken into 3 sessions. Volker had always loved leg sleeves. Volker wanted to do full arm sleeves as well, but working in IT, it didn’t seem like a good idea. Volker can get away with the leg sleeve.

Troll Tattoo artiest Vanis Orr

This is a shoulder Viking Tattoo. The artist is Vanis Orr. Volker likes to tell people they got the tattoo in honer of their grandfather who was a viking. It is in honer of him raping and pillaging through out Europe in the early 1000s. The tattoo is a Viking Skull wearing a helmet with one broken horn, and a snake going through eye. The waves are Japanese style. Mix of Japanese and traditional style. Then there was a troll for added Viking energy.

Dragon Tattoo Red Dragon in Richmond VA

This was Volker’s first tattoo. Volker wanted to get something non offensive and kind of cool. They did it on their 18th birthday. They got the tattoo at Red Dragon in Richmond, VA. Volker somewhat regrets this dragon. Thinks it looks kind of lame now, and it has a weird tail. Not strong regret. Volker might cover it up, or give it a top hat and golden tooth.

Life in Russian Cyrillic Tattoo

Life in Russian Cyrillic. Volker thought it looked cool. Volker studied Russian in college and wanted to get tattoo in Cyrillic. Hates to admit it, but stole the idea from Russian band called Teraconnie. It was on one of the band members wrist, and Volker liked the way it was written. Volker took to tattoo idea to the artist, Vanis. In a friend’s apartment helping move, there was a weight bench. Vanis created the tattoo on the weight bench, with a friend’s pit bull kept coming up and licking Volker during the tattooing.

Cover Up Tattoo

This used to be an anti-swastika tattoo. The problem was that it wasn’t clear that it was anti swastika. The red line through the swastika could look a little like flesh. The tattoo could have looked like holding swastika close to heart. Volker had to get it covered up. The artist Erick did this artwork. The star covers up the previous tattoo very nicely. As an FYI, the stars are also not connected to Russian mafia.

Family Tattoos

Motorcycle Wings Tattoo

Motorcycle Wings tattoo. Dad has the same tattoo. Went up for Christmas both got the tattoos. It’s a motorcycle as dad rides cross-country for a fund raiser.

Arrow tattoo. All of the three other sisters have the exact same tattoo. The arrow has four leaves and the last leaf is filled in as they are the youngest. There is a heart connecting all of the leaves.

24 Months of Runes

I have been studying the Elder Futhark with Sleipnir’s saddle.

I have been trying to get a closer connection to the Runes. I have purchased a Fehu chain. My plan is get a chain with each rune. I will then wear the rune for a month in an attempt to get a better connection to the runes.
