Hagalaz is the 9th rune in the Elder Futhark. Phonetically, it’s ‘H.” It’s the first rune in Heimdall’s Aett. It’s connected to Hella. It is said to be a water elemental rune.
Hagalaz is the hailstone rune. It is also looked at as the rune for change. It is also looked at as a seed of Ymir. Hella is said to have two faces, which may be why this rune has two different looks. My understanding is that the Witches Foot is closer to magic, and the “H” is closer to nature. I will be wearing both at different times. While many see this rune as massive change, it can also be looked at as either a protection rune, or as the coming of something new.
Old Icelandic
Hail is cold grain
and shower of sleet
and sickness of serpents.
Anglo-Saxon
Hail is the whitest of grain;
it is whirled from the vault of heaven
and is tossed about by gusts of wind
and then it melts into water.

Face down in reading:
I currently don’t have any examples. I would see it as the reverse of face up. I think it will depend on what other runes are thrown.
My current notes: It’s my first day of focusing my energies on Hagalaz, and I have to deal with my loud neighbors. They want to play very loud music every weekend that the weather is nice. I may not win, but I will fight.
Added Note: My month with Hagalaz. There was a lot of change, some good some bad. I do feel the energy diffidently ow with this rune. One I would easily say to be careful of.
